EICR inspections
EICR Electrician in Harrogate
An EICR tells you exactly what state your wiring is in. It’s worth having when you buy, sell, or if it’s been more than ten years since the last one.
An Electrical Installation Condition Report inspects and tests the fixed wiring: the consumer unit, circuits, sockets, switches, light fittings, earthing and bonding. Plug-in appliances aren’t included. Each issue found is given a code.
C1 means danger present and is made safe on the spot. C2 means potentially dangerous. C3 is a recommended improvement. FI means further investigation is needed. Any C1, C2 or FI makes the report unsatisfactory, and you’ll get a separate price to put it right.
When an EICR makes sense
- You’re buying an older house
- You’re selling and want the paperwork ready
- It’s been ten years or more since the last test
- You’re planning a renovation or extension
- The property has been empty or had water damage
- You’ve noticed trips, warm accessories or flickering
How it works
- Book a time
Most homes take two to four hours. Power is off briefly during testing.
- Inspect and test
The board, every circuit and a sample of accessories are checked.
- Report and explain
You get the report with each code explained, plus a separate price for any remedial work.
EICRs in Harrogate
Harrogate’s property market includes a lot of older, higher-value homes, and buyers increasingly ask for an EICR before exchange. Knowing the state of the wiring in a Victorian villa or a 1930s semi before you commit can make a real difference to the budget for a renovation.
EICR questions
How often should a home have an EICR?
Every ten years for owner-occupied homes is the usual recommendation, or on change of ownership.
Can you test a house I’m buying?
Yes, with the seller’s permission. It tells you what you’re taking on before you commit.
What if it comes back unsatisfactory?
You get a clear price for the remedial work, and written confirmation once it’s done.
